About Me

My name is Ian Shields and I am a Lead Software Engineer, specializing in web development technologies. I am a passionate, goal oriented developer, focused on delivering high quality results to you and your business.  I studied at University of Maryland and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 2009. Upon graduation, I took a job at the Department of the Navy building research applications in C++.  After about 3 years, however, I decided to follow my passion for web development and accepted a full time position at WeddingWire, building web applications in Java, Ruby on Rails, and PHP.  Eventually I made the transition to the management track where I learned how to lead a team of 5 other engineers to achieve company goals.  As the company evolved, so did my skills, with the technology, team building, management, and communications . 

In February of 2020, I decided to leave WeddingWire to start working as a freelance developer.  I have a variety of clients and work with all sorts of technology and industries, from green technology to travel.  Getting to know you and your business is one of my favorite parts of the job, and I can quickly help you identify ways to grow your company.  As a graduate in Computer Science and someone with years of experience developing software, I’m very good at learning new technologies and programming languages.  Above all, I really enjoy using my years of experiences to help clients accomplish their goals.
